If elders "say things they later come to regret," despite "having prayed over what they were going to say" and "after giving it all due consideration," how about simply admonishing them to apologize?

June 15th WT ( again) JW's told " Elders are Imperfect " Give them a Break
by flipper inthis is one subject that really annoyed me when i was a jehovah's witness - and i find it still annoys me after being out 7 years from the jw's.
the title of this jw only wt study article is " have regard for those who are working hard among you ".
in my opinion there always seemed to be a double standard in which rank and file publishers were always told to be patient with elders shortcomings - however if rank and file publishers slipped up - elders would be into admonishing and disciplining them like flies attracted to dung with no delay.

The Writing Department's use of "Exclamation Points". Anybody else find their use cheesy? Or motivating possibly?
by miseryloveselders insomething i've been meaning to ask for a while since coming here, is wsup with the writing department's use of exclamation points?
i'm no literature buff or anything, but to me personally, the exclamation points cheapen whatever they're trying to get across.
here's some examples from the new jeremiah book.. how thankful we can be for the teaching done by christian shepherds!.

Above all, an exclamation point is intended to elicit an emotional, as opposed to a rational, reaction from the reader. And yet, the WT loves to decry the "blatant appeal to emotionalism" by the "born again" crowd!!

June 15th WT ( again ) WT Society Bashes College & Earning a Living
by flipper insorry for the redundancy of this being the 3rd article out of this magazine i've made a thread on- but i felt it was important to share these quotes from the aricle titled " make your way successful - how ?
" i think you'll see the extreme dissing of higher education here and guilt tactics used to discourage jw members from getting a college education or earning a decent living.. under the subheading " higher education " ?
it states, " a christian has a scriptural obligation to care for his family, and that includes providing for their material needs.

If the lack of a college education limits your employment options, and hence the control of your life choices, it amounts to nothing less than surrendering your personal freedom control to the whims of whomever you work for. Wider options generally grants one more control over one's circumstances and therefore more personal indepedence.
Granted, for those with highly specialized skills and training in the manual trades in high demand, i.e. electrician, plumbing, etc. deciding against furtherance of one's formal, academic education may well be the right choice. The point is, the decision whether to either accept or decline college says nothing about an individual's personal spirituality; it's spiritually neutral.

The trouble with Christianity. TRINITY.
by whereami ingotta love pat.. "ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions.
ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity.
it is the mere abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of jesus.

" Jesus claimed to be God and progressively revealed a triune understanding." godrulz, this a pretty sweeping assertion. On what is it based? Certainly not in my Bible.

Did You Tend To Question The Organization Or Did You Just WANT To Believe?
by minimus ini know some who always questioned the elders, the society, and others because they were typically skeptical.. there are those who just seemed to want to believe whatever they were told.. i was more a skeptic, during my last decade.. .

Want to quit Bible study
by confusedstudent inhi i was just looking for some advice.
i have been studying with the jw's for over a year now, and attended 2 memorials and the district/assembly conventions.
at first, and up until very recently i truly believed what i was learning was the truth.

dear confusedstudent: You say you "loved these women with all (my) heart;" do doubt you did/still do.
What I think you're saying is: you fear the moment you tell them you've reconsidered your decision to be baptised it will snuff out what you regard as a genuine friendship; that they will be unwilling to reciprocate your wish to have the relationship survive that disclosure.
Sadly, as you may have seen on this forum and elsewhere, there's considerable evidence to suggest your instincts are accurate in this respect.

Atlas Shrugged Part 1
by littlerockguy inwent and saw atlas shrugged part 1 at the rave theater here in little rock friday night.
i was surprised it showed here since it had such a limited showing.. anyway i was really surprised at how well it was done on such a limited budget and a very tight and short schedule to have the whole picture done and it really followed the book very well.
i went to the 7:15 showing and the theater was packed but but not sold out.

Count me as one who finds Atlas Shrugged one of the most overblown, overrated work in the canon of American literature. I reads like a text for a comic book serial.
